The Smart Tool is a method of combining all of the edit tools (trim selection and grabber) into 1 unit. This allows for much more flexibility without having to constantly change tools.
To select the smart tool, click the oblong shape underneath the three tools in the tool bar, or prees either F6 & F7 or F7 & F8 together at the same time:
With this selected, the three edit tools turn blue and you are in smart tool mode. The smart tool will function according to where you place the cursor in the region. In wave form view the cursor becomes:
- the Selector tool when you position the cursor in the upper half of the track
- the Grabber tool when you move it to the lower half of the track (or its extreme outer edges in stereo tracks)
- the Trim tool when you position it towards the regions start or end points.
The Smart tool also becomes the Scrubber tool when you right click drag while in Smart tool mode.
In other views, such as the notes view, the functions will perform with similar effect.
