OK - lets face it... if we're scoring to picture we've got to be able to put the picture in the sequencer and make sure it lines up properly too. Here's how:
(In DP5) Go to the Project menu and select Movie from the bottom of the list (or SHORTCUT KEY: SHIFT V). You will now need to navigate to the where your movie file is stored on the computer. (N.B. - this should happen automatically but to save you time make sure your editor sends you the file in Quicktime Format.)
Once the movie has opened you need to make sure that the Timecode shown on the screen matches the Timecode of your sequencer. To do this open up the movie's mini-menu (the second icon in the top left corner of the movie) and select 'Set Movie Start Time...'

Then, with the Quicktime file set to the start position, set the movie start time to the same time shown in the first frame - in this example it is 1:00:08:00 - then press OK.

Finally you now need to make sure that the first frame of the sequencer is the same time. In DP5 you do this in the Tempo Control Pop Out Window. Press the 'Start Times...' button.

In the Set Chunk Start window, enter the same Timecode next to the Frames tiome window, then Press OK.

On a last note, to ensure that the film remains in the same time code be sure to set the frame rate in the Tempo Control Pop Out Window. (Go here to learn more about frame rates.) If you're unsure just ask your editor (don't worry - it's not a stupid question to ask). Usually, in the USA the frame rate will be 29.97 non-drop and in the UK it will be 25 fps.
